In today’s digital age, email has become an essential mode of communication. However, using traditional email systems can be challenging for people with physical disabilities who may not be able to operate a keyboard or mouse. To address this issue, we have developed a Voice Based Email System for Physically Handicapped People. This system enables users to access email services using their voice and facial recognition, eliminating the need for manual input. The system supports features like user registration with face recognition, secure login using face detection, and voice-controlled mail operations such as composing, deleting, and checking unread emails. By providing a hands-free and user-friendly interface, our project aims to promote digital inclusion and make email communication easier and more accessible for physically challenged individuals.
Introduction
The project focuses on creating a Voice-Based Email System for Physically Handicapped People to enable hands-free email communication using voice commands and facial recognition. Traditional email systems rely on keyboards and mice, posing challenges for users with physical disabilities. This system allows users to register and log in securely through face recognition, eliminating password use, and perform email functions like composing, reading, and deleting emails via voice commands.
Literature Survey
Voice recognition is widely used in assistive technologies but faces challenges like accent variation and reliance on internet connectivity.
Facial recognition offers secure, contactless authentication ideal for accessibility.
Existing voice-based communication systems lack integration of biometric login and specialized email handling.
Key challenges include speech recognition accuracy, security/privacy concerns, and limited customization for disabled users.
Methodology
Requirement gathering from physically handicapped users guided the design.
The system uses modular architecture combining speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and face recognition.
Secure registration/login via face recognition.
Voice commands control email tasks (compose, read, delete).
Email handling integrates with SMTP/IMAP for full voice-based email management.
Testing with disabled users ensured system accuracy and usability.
Results and Discussion
Registration stores user data and face images securely.
Face recognition authenticates users to grant access.
Users can compose emails by dictating subject, body, and recipient; optional attachments can be added by voice.
The system reads unread emails aloud with sender info and previews.
Emails can be deleted through voice commands by specifying keywords.
Overall, the system provides an accessible, secure, and user-friendly email experience tailored to the needs of physically handicapped users.
Conclusion
The Voice Based Email System for Physically Handicapped People is a step forward in making digital communication more inclusive and accessible. By combining voice recognition and face detection technologies, the system enables users with physical disabilities to perform basic email operations like composing, deleting, and reading mails without the need for physical input devices. The project successfully addresses a real-world problem and offers a solution that is not only functional but also user-friendly. Throughout the development process, the focus remained on simplicity, accuracy, and accessibility to ensure that even users with limited technical knowledge could operate the system easily. The use of speech-to-text and face recognition ensures a secure and hands-free experience. Although the current system covers the essential functionalities, it also opens doors for future enhancements like multilingual support, AI assistance, and integration with other communication platforms. Overall, this project contributes positively to the lives of differently-abled individuals by giving them a sense of independence in managing their digital communication.
